Personal Gourmet, Inc.

Sliced boneless prime rib roast with au jus and horseradish cream

Every November the same thing happens. Someone volunteers to host, someone says “let’s do prime rib this year,” and then the scramble starts: which butcher still has a roast, whether it needs to be ordered weeks ahead, and whether a mail-order box will show up on the porch on a warm Riverside afternoon. If you searched prime rib delivery because you want the centerpiece handled early, this guide explains how we do it in Southern California and how to cook it once it is in your freezer.

Personal Gourmet is a family-owned company (Personal Gourmet, Inc., since 2001) that hand-delivers restaurant-quality food into freezers across seven Southern California counties. No order minimums, no contracts, and pricing that is personal to what your household actually eats.

Note: We are not the Philadelphia “Personal Gourmet” brand that sometimes appears in national search results. This page is about our SoCal in-person freezer service.

Prime rib on the live lineup

Our prime rib is a boneless, naturally aged roast that you slice into your own portions. It sits with the rest of our beef selections, alongside steakhouse cuts and another holiday favorite, chateaubriand, the center of the tenderloin. Confirm current roast options and personal pricing with a specialist. We do not post a public price sheet, and offerings can change.

Like everything we carry, it arrives vacuum-sealed and frozen, so it can wait in the freezer until the week you need it.

Prime rib vs ribeye: same cut, different job

Prime rib and ribeye come from the same part of the animal, the rib section. A ribeye is that section cut into individual steaks and cooked fast and hot. Prime rib is the section left whole as a roast and cooked low and slow, then carved at the table. The word “prime” in the name is tradition; it does not by itself tell you the grade of the beef.

That is why a mixed freezer often has both. Ribeye steaks cover a Tuesday dinner for two. Prime rib covers the night twelve people are coming over. If your crowd prefers leaner beef, filet mignon or the chateaubriand roast are the usual alternatives.

Why holiday prime rib belongs in the freezer early

  • No last-minute hunt. Butcher cases thin out right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. A roast already in your freezer takes that off the list.
  • No porch gamble. National shippers send foam coolers by carrier. That is fine if someone is home to unpack. It is a risk when the box sits in the sun. The USDA’s mail-order food safety guidance explains why that matters.
  • Room to plan. You pick the thaw day, the cook day, and the sides, instead of planning around a delivery window the week of the party.

How to thaw and cook it

Thaw a frozen roast in the refrigerator, not on the counter. The USDA’s safe defrosting guide suggests allowing about one full day for every four to five pounds, so a holiday roast usually goes from freezer to fridge a couple of days ahead.

The serving suggestion on our listing is the classic one: roast low and slow to medium-rare, let it rest well, and carve thick slices with au jus and horseradish cream. Yorkshire pudding turns it into an occasion. Our meat preparation chart has more cooking guidance.

A few tips that save the day:

  • Use a probe thermometer and pull the roast a few degrees before your target, because the temperature keeps rising while it rests.
  • For safety, whole beef roasts should reach at least 145°F followed by a three-minute rest, per the federal safe minimum internal temperature chart.
  • Rest the roast 15 to 30 minutes before carving so the juices stay in the meat, not on the board.
  • Leftovers make the best sandwiches of the year. Refrigerate them within two hours of serving.

Free in-person delivery across seven counties

We deliver free across Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties, seven days a week, with morning, afternoon or evening windows. A person walks your order into the kitchen and loads the freezer. See the service area page, or the local pages for Orange County and Riverside.

Outside Southern California, we can talk about nationwide shipping with shipping and handling. That is a different product from free local freezer delivery.

How ordering works

  • 1. Free consultation. Tell us you want prime rib for the holidays, plus anything else your household eats. A specialist follows up, usually within one business day, with current personal pricing.
  • 2. Custom order. Add steaks, seafood or poultry for the weeks around the holiday. Everything is individually packed. The how it works page walks through the flow.
  • 3. Freezer delivery. Hand-delivered in person. Unused portions you do not like can be exchanged.

No minimums. No maximums. No contracts. Order one roast for the holiday, or stock the freezer for the season.

Prime rib delivery FAQ

Do you carry prime rib right now?

Prime rib is on our live beef listing as a boneless, naturally aged roast. Confirm current options and personal pricing with a specialist, because offerings can change.

How far ahead should I order a holiday prime rib?

Earlier is easier. Holiday weeks fill up, so order a few weeks ahead and keep the roast frozen until a couple of days before you cook.

Is prime rib the same as ribeye?

They come from the same rib section. Ribeye is cut into steaks; prime rib is the whole roast, cooked slowly and carved.

Is this shipped in a box?

Not within our seven Southern California counties. We hand-deliver into your freezer in person. Nationwide shipping is a separate conversation.

How do I get pricing for prime rib roast delivery in Southern California?

Pricing is personal. Use the request form on our homepage or call 1-888-870-FOOD, and a specialist will follow up with current pricing. There is no obligation.
