King crab legs with drawn butter and grilled lemon

King crab legs are the dinner people save for a birthday, an anniversary or the night the whole family is finally in town. They are also one of the easiest special-occasion meals to get wrong, usually by overcooking legs that were already cooked before they were frozen. If you searched king crab legs delivery in Southern California, this guide covers what we carry, how to heat it properly and how in-person freezer delivery differs from a foam cooler left at the door.

Personal Gourmet is a family-owned company (Personal Gourmet, Inc., since 2001) that hand-delivers restaurant-quality food into freezers across seven Southern California counties. No order minimums, no contracts, and personal pricing based on what your household actually eats.

Note: We are not the Philadelphia “Personal Gourmet” brand that sometimes shows up in national search results. This page is about our SoCal in-person freezer service.

King crab legs on the live lineup

Our king crab legs are large, fully cooked legs that include the knuckle meat, described on the listing as the biggest crab from Alaska, with sweet meat that pulls right out of the shell. They sit on our shellfish page next to shrimp, scallops, lobster tails and crab cakes. Confirm current options and personal pricing with a specialist. We do not publish a price sheet, and offerings can change.

Like everything we carry, the legs arrive vacuum-sealed and frozen, so they wait in your freezer until the occasion does.

If you are curious about the animal itself, NOAA Fisheries has a red king crab profile covering where it lives and how the U.S. fishery is managed. For how our crab is sourced at any given time, ask a specialist.

Fully cooked means heat, don’t cook

Most king crab is cooked and frozen soon after it is caught, and ours is sold fully cooked. That changes the job in your kitchen. You are warming the meat through, not cooking raw seafood, so the clock is short. The cooking instructions on our listing give two simple methods:

  • Boiling. Drop the frozen legs into boiling water, let it return to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Steaming. Steam straight from frozen for 8 to 10 minutes.

Serve with drawn butter and lemon. Kitchen shears make the meat easy to reach: cut down the softer side of each shell section and lift the meat out in one piece. Going much past the listed times dries the meat and makes it stringy, which is the most common complaint people have about crab at home.

Prefer it cold, for a crab salad or with a mustard sauce? Thaw the legs in the refrigerator first. The FDA’s guide to selecting and serving fresh and frozen seafood safely covers safe thawing and storage.

Why crab is worth doing through a freezer delivery

  • No porch cooler. National seafood shippers send crab by carrier in foam and dry ice. That works if someone is home to unpack it. It is a gamble when the box sits outside on a warm afternoon in Temecula or Thousand Oaks. The USDA’s mail-order food safety guidance explains the risk.
  • Ready when the occasion is. Crab in the freezer means a celebration dinner does not depend on what the seafood counter had that morning.
  • Mix and match. One stop can cover crab for the special night and everyday proteins for the rest of the month.

Build a surf-and-turf night

King crab pairs naturally with a steak. A filet mignon next to crab legs and drawn butter is a restaurant meal at home. For an all-seafood spread, add lobster tails, shrimp or scallops. Because every item is individually packed, you thaw only what you plan to serve.

Free in-person delivery across seven counties

We deliver free across Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties, seven days a week, with morning, afternoon or evening windows. A person walks your order into your kitchen and loads the freezer. See the service area page, or local pages for Los Angeles and San Diego.

Outside Southern California, we can talk about nationwide shipping with shipping and handling. That is a separate product from free local freezer delivery.
